over the last month ive performed a serious overhaul of my system, replacing my processor, mobo, grfx card, RAM and adding a second hard drive.
everything worked fine for a couple of days, until i tried to hook my internet connection up through a router. it worked fine till i added the router, but started crashing after i hooked it up. of course, i unhooked the router, but the blue screens continued. now, whenever i boot the windows desktop comes up for several seconds, then crashes to the same blue screen.
anyway, heres the error message i get whenever i boot the system:
***stop: 0x0000008E (0x00000005, 0x804EC04X, 0xF805BB88, 0x00000000)
and yesterday, i tried reinstalling windows XP pro and got the same blue screen. the only difference was an extra stop message, which is as follows:
*** CTOSS2K.SYS - ADDRESS F964E3D9 base at F9647000, date stamp 364E7551
so, my reinstall of windows failed. ive read that sometimes you have to perform a clean install of windows XP after changing mobos. could this be my problem? if so, should i format the old C: drive? id really prefer not to, since i just did when i installed my extra hard drive (which was about a month before the other upgrades.)

Update Drivers For Mac
Specific driver cited in crash: ctoss2k.sys ctoss2k.sys file version: 5.-1.14.0030 Our immediate response to this problem was to update the driver for the sound card. This proved difficult since Dell only updates their drivers about once every few years, and Dell prevents a user from using drivers directly from the original equiptment. I attempted to manually install a number of the drivers, including Vista-patched drivers, around on the Internet but Windows 7 would automatically remove the driver upon reboot. August 28th, 2. A bit more information might be useful to prevent this answer from becoming useless with bit rit. User Name Remember Me? Apr 25, 2009 Thought it was my overclock but everything was under specs. Reset all to default, still kept getting bsod. Second thought towards it, i look at the bsod this time and read its the file 'ctoss2k.sys' that continually is crashing my pc.
